Eugene McGilloway, 77, of Holmdel NJ passed away peacefully on January 11, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born on September 12, 1942 to Patrick and Margaret (Brennan) McGilloway in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Brooklyn College and then began his career at NBC, kicking off a 45-year career in IT.
In 1962, he met Geraldine Sweeney, and they wed in 1966, going on to have three daughters, Kathy, Tricia and Jean Marie.
After retiring in 2011 from the NY Police Department he spent time traveling and caring for and spoiling his seven grandchildren.
Gene was a dedicated husband and father first and foremost. He treasured his children and embraced every moment with them. Gene was a true gentleman, assisting anyone at any time - it was not unusual to have a stranger at the dinner table or to find him up cooking for people at all hours of the night (bacon was a specialty). He had a witty sense of humor and always made friends wherever he went. He found joy in making others happy.
Gene is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Patrick. He is survived by his wife Gerry, sister Margaret, three daughters Kathy Stromberg, Tricia (Matthew) Benjamin, Jean Marie (Alec) Sapounas and seven grandchildren, Erica (Greg), Caitlin (Austin), Liam, Aidan, Sean, Jack and Kate.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at St Benedicts Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel NJ at 11:00am Friday, January 24th.
